Challenging hikes in the Lienz Dolomites

Breathtaking

Experienced hikers will find numerous routes around our hotel that offer sporty challenges, breathtaking panoramas, and delicious Tyrolean specialties at alpine huts.

Lienzer Hütte on the Lienzer Höhenweg

With a length of 16 km, the Debanttal is the longest self-contained high valley in Austria and definitely one of the most beautiful. On this hike, you don't start directly in the Debanttal but hike to the destination via the Zettersfeld.

Route description: with the gondola of the Lienzer Bergbahnen up to the Zettersfeld and continue on the 4-pers. chair lift to the summit station of the Steinermandl. From here, the path is well marked and leads via the Seewiesen Alm, Well Alm, Nußdorfer Alm, and ruggedly romantic Trelebitsch Alm to the destination - the Lienzer Hütte at an elevation of 1,977 m.

Time-on-trail: ca. 5 hrs.

Schleinitz

One of the most beautiful summits of the Schober group at an elevation of 2,904 m with a magnificent view of the city of Lienz and the Lienz Dolomites. Route description: with the gondola to the Lienzer Bergbahnen on the Zettersfeld. If you take the chair lift up to the summit station of the Steinermandl, you will save 1.5 hrs. of hiking time. Alternatively, you can start your hike right at the gondola summit station and hike to the Steinermandl summit station. From here, a signposted path leads to the Neualplseen. Follow the path past rocky spots to the summit of the Schleinitz. The breathtaking panorama rewards hikers for their exertion.

Time-on-trail: ca. 1 hr. 15 min. to the Steinermandl and from here ca. 3 hrs. to the summit

Hochsteinhütte 2,025 m

Opening times: May 1 to October 31
2 cozy lounges for ca. 40 guests, 2 terraces for ca. 90 guests

Ascent: This extensive hike starts from the Sternalm on the Hochstein (1,505 m), which you can comfortably reach by chair lift (section 2) from Lienz. From here, you will head via the romantic Märchensteig to the Hochsteinhütte in ca. 1.5 hrs. Via the Bannberg, you can easily reach the Hochsteinhütte parking lot (toll), which is only 10 minutes from the hut. As an alternative, you can start from the Moosalm (1,000 m) along the "Russenweg" path to the magnificent Hochsteinhütte on the Hochstein with delicious refreshments (3-hr. hike).
