Our insider tips for hikes in East Tyrol

Favorite routes

Our hiking guide Thomas is out and about in the mountains of East Tyrol in both summer and winter. Choosing a favorite is difficult, but these hiking routes are among his favorites:

Gottschaunalm

A rustic hut in a lush, green meadow with a splendid view of the Virgental. Route description: by car to the Marin parking lot in the Virgental. From here, a path leads through the forest past the Allerheiligenkapelle. The path crosses the road and continues to the Gottschaunalm. The forest path is an alternative for seniors and children.

Time-on-trail: 2 hrs.

Kamelisenalm

A wonderful ensemble of alpine huts typical of the Villgratental. Route description: by car through East Tyrol's Pustertal and Villgratental to Innervillgraten. The hike begins right in the village center of Innervillgraten and leads through the Einattal along the Einatbach. Turn left onto the Berger Kirchweg, which leads past the farms of Hochberg. Follow signposts for "Nr. 1" towards the Kamelisenalm. Past the farms of Berglet and Schettlet, continue on a forest road, which leads directly to the Kamelisenalm.

Time-on-trail: 2 hrs

Volkzeiner Hütte

By car through East Tyrol's Pustertal and Villgratental to the Reiterstube near Außervillgraten. You will find a Kneipp facility right next to the Reiterstube, where you can warm up for the upcoming hike. From the Reiterstube runs a wide gravel path over alpine meadows along the Winkelbach until you reach the Volkzeiner Hütte in 1.5 hrs.

Time-on-trail: 1.5 hrs.
The hut can be reached by car daily.
